Tom Ohmart

Tom Ohmart

President, SWVMA

Tom Ohmart graduated from Arizona State University in 1994 with a bachelor’s in Wildfire Ecology. He enjoyed his career with Arizona Game & Fish for over a decade and established the Arizona Heritage Program before finishing 2 more decades with the Phoenix Fire Department. He and his father started a native seed business in Arizona and continues to stay involved in revegetation management throughout the southwest. He has been involved with the SWVMA since 2018 and is currently serving his third year (non-consecutive) as Board President.

Alexa Lopezlira

Alexa Lopezlira

Vice President, SWVMA

Alexa Lopezlira is a Senior Biologist at the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), specializing in roadside resources and vegetation management. Alexa holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of Portland and is currently completing a Master’s degree in Environmental Law at the Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. Her professional experience includes over 6 years in environmental compliance surveys and the implementation of statewide conservation policies for ADOT. Alexa is proud to serve on the SWVMA board as Vice President and has been actively involved with SWVMA since 2023. As a native Arizonan, Alexa is a fierce advocate for preservation of the unique desert landscape she and millions of others call home.

Jonathan Horst is the founder of baselineshift Consulting, where he helps organizations solve complex challenges through thoughtful strategy and communication. He is committed to supporting the growth and success of the SWVMA community.

Monique Laraway

Treasurer, SWVMA

Monique Laraway is a Tucson-based illustrator whose work is inspired by Sonoran Desert ecology, native plants, cycling, and community connection. Through bold, accessible illustration, she helps people engage with local resources and environmental stewardship. As a board member, she brings a creative perspective to invasive species management and a passion for protecting native landscapes. She is committed to supporting education, outreach, and community involvement in caring for the region’s unique ecosystems.
